Isenberg Professors Honored for Teaching and Research
May 31, 2018
Albert Assaf, a professor in Isenberg’s Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, is this year’s recipient of the school’s University of Massachusetts Amherst College Outstanding Teacher Award. Dr. Assaf’s teaching interests include managerial economics, business statistics, and applied econometrics. Isenberg also congratulates Sport Management professor Nefertiti Walker and Accounting lecturer Sean Wandrei for their receipt of the school’s own Teaching Excellence Awards. Professor Walker teaches courses in sport policy and sport organization and development. Professor Wandrei teaches courses in taxation.
For the College Outstanding Teacher Award, each college, faculty, or school on the UMass Amherst campus selects an outstanding faculty member for recognition at Commencement. Isenberg’s own Teaching Excellence Awards honor additional faculty members who have excelled in the classroom.
In May, Isenberg also honored several of its top researchers. Finance professor Fousseni Chabi-Yo received Isenberg’s 2018 Outstanding Researcher Award. In addition, management professor Bruce Skaggs and finance professor Matthew Linn were honored with the school’s Research Excellence Awards. With two premier and one A-level publication, Professor Chabi-Yo excels in research that explores asset pricing theory, empirical asset pricing, and financial econometrics. Professor Skaggs studies knowledge creation and distribution, competitive advantage, and innovation. And Professor Linn investigates risk management, fixed income assets, and derivatives. During the past year, both professors’ research appeared in top journals in their fields.
