Driven Alumni: Li Li Leung, MBA/MS '03
February 20, 2019
U.S.A. Gymnastics announced in February 2019 that Li Li Leung would be its new president and CEO. The organization has struggled since revelations that its long-time team doctor, Larry Nassar, had sexually abused hundreds of girls and young women for decades. Leung says her first priority will be to reach an equitable resolution of the lawsuits filed by Nassar's victims and to address U.S.A. Gymnastics' relationship with the United States Olympic Committee.
Leung, a former gymnast (she competed in the Junior Pan-Am Games and for the University of Michigan in the N.C.A.A. Championships) and alumna of Isenberg's Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management has spent the past four years as VP of Global Partnerships for the NBA, overseeing cohesion and integration to maximize investments, meet business objectives, and “help make their partnerships come to life.”
Li Li’s passion for business success is only matched by her passion for sports. “Sports have been a part of my life ever since I was a young child… I realized that sports helped me to find who I am today. And it’s played such a big role in my life that I realized that I want to be able to give back and continue to grow in sports. And I think that’s why I’m here where I am today.”
